Supervised Study 2026- Rules reminder

April 13, 2026

For the attention of those who do supervised study:

Dear all.

We are coming into the last 6 weeks of supervised study and we want this time to be as productive as possible for all those who attend supervised study. Supervised study is a structured environment that provides quiet and calm time making it as conducive to focus and study as possible.

This is a reminder of some of the rules that exist to ensure that this environment is maintained.

  1. Food and drink: No consumption of food in the library. Students can use the canteen to have their snacks etc before study begins and at the break. Only water is allowed to be consumed while study is in session. This is clearly stated on the information document that was sent out earlier in the year.

  1. Books/ equipment & toilet: All books/ equipment etc and toilet trips must be organised before the session begins and in the 10 min break at 5 (or 6pm for those doing 3 hours). That’s what the breaks are primarily for.

However unintentionally, it is disrespectful not to organise yourself to the point that you are distracting others who have signed up to avail of a distraction free environment.

Students will be permitted to leave if there is a genuine urgent reason.

  1. Seating in the Library: If you are asked to move seats to another location in the library, please do so quickly and quietly. Students are not permitted to sit at tables facing each other.

Supervisors might see that some students focus better away from others, or that a lot of students all seated closely in a corner might be problematic. If students are asked to move it is generally for their own good or for the good of the group as a whole.

If you feel there is an issue, please come and talk to either myself, Ms Ní Shíomóin (O2) or Mr Conway (T1).

All this information is clearly stated on the information document that was sent out earlier in the year and you will have agreed and signed up to those rules at the beginning of the term.

We are looking forward to a productive last term.

L Ní Shíomóin
