Senior Debate Club News (by Ms Gunning).

February 5, 2026

The Senior Debate Club were unfortunately knocked out of the Concern Debates after a most valiant and passionate debate against CBC Kilkenny. This team consisted of Fahd Eladhm (Chairperson), Benjamin Forrest (Captain), Rose Spencer (Speaker), Tina Capurro (Speaker) and Art O’Neill (Speaker).  The topic was “Gen Z has the power to end global poverty”. Mount Temple was the proposition. We are so proud of the team who presented their points of argument with vigour, detailed research and enthusiasm, but unfortunately missed out on getting through to the next round.

This was the whole club’s first time being involved in the Concern debates and the art of debating. To have reached the top 64 schools out of 180 was a massive achievement. The club involved many students in the background who helped out with research as well as speakers, chairpeople and timekeepers throughout the term including Alice Gifford, Carme VanWky, Faolon O’ Murchu-Toner, Kian O’Mahoney and Sadhbh McNally. We know these students will continue to flourish in their oratory skills and hope to see them plus more in the debate team next year!
