The Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) is also referred to as Link Modules. The primary goal of the subject is to prepare young people for adult life by ensuring they are educated in the broadest sense, with an ability to cope and thrive in an environment of rapid change.
The skills and qualities developed are relevant to the needs of those preparing for further education, seeking employment, or planning to start their own business.
Topics include: Work and employment, employee rights and responsibilities, health and safety at work, CV writing, job applications, interview skills, importance of voluntary organisations in a community, responsibilities of volunteers, organising an event, setting up a local business.
3 x 40 min periods per week. Classes based in the computer room are used to work on a student’s portfolio while classroom time is used for theory.
Assessment:
The subject is examined at Common level.
Students of LCVP receive a grade of Distinction, Merit or Pass.
Points applicable are as follows: Distinction (66 points) Merit (46 points) Pass (28 points).
Continuous assessment (portfolio) is worth 60% and is due March of 6th Year. Six elements make up the portfolio which is worked on during class time:
The written examination is worth 40% of the total marks. The examination takes place in May of 6th Year and is 2.5 hours long. The exam paper is made up of three sections; audio visual, case study and questions.
Section A: Audio-visual Presentation.
Section B: Case Study (received a few weeks before the exam)
Section C: General Questions on course curriculum (four out of six to be completed)
Link Modules are recognised for points purposes by the Institutes of Technology and the Universities. The points are allocated as follows:
